The Squadron Sponsoring Committee is a volunteer group responsible for adding resources or funding initiatives beyond what is funded through the national sponsorship.
To parents of 18 Dartmouth Lions Air Cadets, we are your Parent Support Group.
Officially, to the Air Cadet League of Canada, we are 18 Dartmouth’s Squadron Sponsoring Committee or SSC.
Who are the SSC members?
- Lien Gomez, SSC President
- Tammy Rehberg, Vice President, Chair and Community Outreach Liaison
- Kelley Hill, Treasurer
- Jeremy Ross, Information Technology
- David Bursey, Secretary and Procurement Coordinator
- Lindsay Ings, Air Cadet League Provincial Director
The Squadron Sponsoring Committee has 2 functions:
Fundraising
SSC is the fundraiser for the squadron. Funds support activities and materials not funded by DND and Training resources. Activities and budget needs are set by the squadron CO and staff as part of the overall Cadet program. As the CO communicates those needs to the SSC, fundraising efforts are planned and carried out.
For 18 Dartmouth Air Cadets, SSC arranges local outings like Get Air, Ground Zero and bowling. Additionally, SSC contributes toward the ACR and Christmas dinners. And every two years, a separate and extended campaign is done to support Cadets on their big trip.
Successful fundraisers have been bottle drives, ticket campaigns, doughnut sales and Christmas tree lot support. And SSC is always open to new ideas. Please let us know your ideas – and join if you’d like to help!
Financial Management
SSC manages funds for the squadron. This function is mandated by the Air Cadet League of Canada, to safeguard the squadron and funds from potential misuse.
Financial responsibilities include fulfilling the squadron budget, disbursement of funds, bookkeeping and annual reporting to the Air Cadet League Provincial Committee and to the CRA.
Where Does the SSC fit in the Organization?
The SSC is not part of the squadron. Instead, SSC is a local, squadron-specific group of the Air Cadet League. Even so, almost all our work is done in cooperation with the squadron CO, to ensure the best experience for the Cadets.
How Do I Join the SSC?
The Squadron Sponsoring Committee welcomes new members and parent participation. Please contact us if you are interested in supporting the Squadron Sponsoring Committee.
Future members of the SSC (like all involved with Cadets) must pass a police record check and a vulnerable sector screening. These are organized by the Air Cadet League and done free of charge.
